Ubiquiti has released the official version 5.0.33 of its UniFi Protect application. The new update comes with significant improvements and new features that give users even more flexibility and control over their security solutions. The new version is a major update following an early access phase in which version 5.0.20 EA was extensively tested.

New functions in version 5.0.33

The highlight of the UniFi Protect 5.0.33 update is the official support for ONVIF cameras, a feature that was already introduced in the previous Early Access version. ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is an open standard that allows users to seamlessly integrate cameras from different manufacturers into the UniFi Protect system. This offers a much wider choice of compatible devices and increases flexibility in the choice of security camera.

In addition to ONVIF integration, there are other notable improvements:

  • Improved camera integration: Compatibility with third-party cameras has been further expanded. This opens up new possibilities for users who do not want to rely exclusively on UniFi cameras.
  • Optimized User Interface: The design and user interface of UniFi Protect has been refined to make it more intuitive to use and easier to navigate through different camera feeds.
  • Stability improvements: Various bug fixes and performance optimizations contribute to a smoother and more stable use of the platform.
  • Security updates: Several security gaps have been closed to ensure data integrity and protection against cyber attacks.

Comparison with the Early Access version 5.0.20

The Early Access version 5.0.20 EA already included many of the features that are now integrated in the final version 5.0.33, including ONVIF support. During the EA phase, users of UniFi Protect were able to test the new feature and provide feedback, which led to further improvements in the official version. Those interested can read more about the features of the Early Access version in this article.

With UniFi Protect 5.0.33, Ubiquiti offers a powerful update for its security platform. Especially the support for ONVIF cameras and the improved integration possibilities are important steps towards an even more flexible and open video surveillance solution.
