Synology Active Backup for Business: Update supports Linux Kernel 6.8

Synology has released a new update for Active Backup for Business, which should please Linux users in particular. With this update, Linux kernel support has been significantly improved, making it possible to back up current Linux systems again without any problems. This is an important update for companies and IT administrators who rely on Linux-based server and desktop environments and need reliable backup solutions.

Improved Linux kernel support

One of the most important new features in this update is the adjustment of support for the Linux kernel. Previously, there were restrictions and compatibility problems when backing up Linux systems, especially with newer kernel versions. These problems meant that many users had to switch to alternative solutions to ensure the backup and recovery of their systems.

This limitation has been resolved with the latest update. Synology Active Backup for Business now supports a wider range of Linux kernel versions, including the latest ones used in many current Linux distributions. This makes backing up Linux servers and desktops much easier and more reliable.

3. Fixed an issue where backing up XFS systems might cause services to unexpectedly stop or result in incorrect backup data.

1. Fixed an issue where restoring virtual machines to VMware might fail if the disk sizes weren’t 4k aligned.

1. Fixed an issue where SMB backups might stop unexpectedly.

Limitations

1. Active Backup for Business Portal does not support browsing and restoring data from Fedora 40 with XFS file systems.
